![]() ![]() “Here Comes the End” by Gerard Way – Episode 9 This is fitting given Vanya’s aptitude for the instrument. In addition to “Pepper,” Much of Vanya’s acid trip is set to Bach’s “Partita No. “Dancing With Myself” by Generation X – Episode 9įittingly, the song that plays as young Five fights the older version of himself. “They were all in love with dying, they were doing it in Texas.” Not only does “Pepper” sonically work with Vanya’s LSD trip but some of the lyrics are quite apt for the season. “The Backstreet Boys has no business going over the fight scene that we did, but yet it just somehow magically works.” And Blackman loves it for that exact reason. This song is an atypical choice for the fight scene between Allison and The Swedes. “Everybody” by Backstreet Boys – Episode 7 “Sister of Pearl” plays as Ben successfully inhabiting Klaus’s body for the first time. ![]() Sometimes I even hear a song and then I decide what scene I want to write with that song in my mind.” Most shows finish the scene, the shooting, and then they add the music afterwards. “Music is such an important thing to me and I really take time to pick the songs,” showrunner Steve Blackman says. The Umbrella Academy made its musical intentions clear in its first episode with the now-beloved dance scene set to Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now.” And the show’s investment in soundtrack and music has only grown from there. The series features a moody score from Jeff Russo but also a truly stunning amount of pop hits. Still it’s hard to imagine any portion of The Umbrella Academy’s budget is larger than the music clearance department. This superhero story is based on an ambitious, colorful comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá and as such it features big action setpieces, depictions of superpowers, and even a talking chimp or two. ![]() I could go on and on about many other scenes if not all of them that had music chosen in poor taste only for the sake of having it in the scene.Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy can’t be a cheap show to make. The "la la la, ok ok ok" song, straight from Tiktok. Plus the beginning of this episode when we hear see you again by Tyler the creator and Kali Uchis. Honestly I'm surprised Belly didn't start screaming the song in the car because that's what felt like was going to happen. It was supposed to be sad and honestly hearing drivers license was a vibe killer. And as she gets into the car, drivers license starts playing. I'll just give you an example from the first episode of season 2, spoilers ahead I must warn you. It's like the songs were chosen from a "Viral Hits" playlist or the creators of this show sat in a room and sussed out that the holy trinity influencing a girls music taste was Tiktok, Taylor Swift, boy bands. The soundtrack also consists of ear worms from Tiktok. The problem with the soundtrack is that there's too much pop music, making the show feel commercialised and that the songs were chosen only to attract the attention of teenage girls and not to match the tone of a particular scene, which is the point of adding music in film or tv. The soundtrack is full of pop music, amazing pop music for the most part so how could I hate it? Music consisting of Olivia Rodrigo and an avalanche of Taylor Swift. I just started watching season 2 and I noticed this big flaw they had way back in the first season but now I genuinely feel insulted by it, that being the biggest part of the series, the soundtrack. I don't use Reddit a lot and this is a page where I should probably give praise to TSITP which is a good show don't get me wrong even though I wouldn't call it peak television. ![]()
